Headphone Review – Mpow H17

By April 5, 2020 March 8th, 2021 No Comments

We’ve suspected for some time that noise is a sensory issue for the little guy, so I’ve been wanting to experiment on him with different headphones. Typically, this experiment consisted of me attempting to coerce him into putting this foreign plastic device over his ears, and him promptly attempting to gouge my eyes out.

However, I recently had a breakthrough and was able to get a pair on his head. This in turn, triggered another one of my marathon internet research sessions on Amazon, Best Buy, and every review I could get my hands on in between.

Based on price, favorable reviews, and delivery speed, I took a chance on the Mpow H17 headphones.

Criteria for Purchase

  1. Cost ($50-$100). It’s highly likely that these will get lost, stepped on, driven over, lost, or go for a dip in the bathtub. Oh, they are also likely to be thrown against a wall in anger at some point. That is assuming they don’t get lost first. Not sure if I mentioned that. Also, no one around here could care less about sound quality so I left this out of the criteria.
  2. Comfort / Fit. Most of the reviews I encountered voiced frustration that most headsets won’t fit kids properly. Or the ones that do fit them are utter crap. This is especially important for autistic kids who typically won’t even wear pants because it touches their skin.
  3. Gotta be Bluetooth capable. Obviously.
  4. Reasonable battery life. I think we all know by now that I’m the only one turning things off around the house.

What I Didn’t Like

The only thing I didn’t like about it was the numerous buttons on the headset itself. Most kids won’t both with them. Heck, I wouldn’t even bother with them and I love buttons. Besides that, I usually find they don’t even work with most smart TVs and their apps.

Features I like

  • You can turn off the noise cancelling feature to save battery. I’m not sure how much my little guy even cares about this when there is a movie playing anyways.
  • The Bluetooth connectivity was SEAMLESS. In fact, I found these headphones would connect automatically on most of my TVs where more expensive brands that I own require me to tell the TV to connect to a device it’s already paired to.
  • The battery life was solid, no complaints.
  • The headphones are a GREAT fit for a little head. It’s also a very soft and comfortable fit around the ears.

Usually, I find myself disappointed in many ways when I buy offshore brands from Amazon. But that wasn’t the case with the Mpow H17 headphones. They were a fantastic buy around the $60 price point.
